“There are a lot of fish pond liner materials on the market. But not every product is right for every pond. Our goal is to help people sort through the options.”

Western Environmental Liner (https://www.WesternLiner.com), a leading manufacturer of geomembrane liners for agricultural and commercial use, today announced the publication of its “Complete Guide To Custom Fish Pond Liners.”
The 1,000 word guide offers tips on buying custom-made liners for large fish ponds or reservoirs.
“There are a lot of fish pond liner materials on the market,” says Shane Carter, President of Western Environmental Liner. “But not every product is right for every pond. Our goal is to help people sort through the options.”
Geosynthetic liners prevent fish ponds and reservoirs from losing water. But a liner only works if it can resist punctures, avoids leaks at the seams and hold up well under sun and weather, says Carter.
Western Environmental Liner’s buying guide advises buyers to consider three key areas:
1. Choosing the best material. The liner material should be puncture resistant, yet flexible, lightweight and resistant to UV rays.
2. Sizing the liner. Buyers must be sure to include 5 extra feet around the rim of their pond to allow the liner to be secured in a trench.
3. Shipping and installing the liner. The manufacturer should wrap the liner in a protective felt to avoid damage during shipping. Buyers should unroll and inspect the liner before accepting delivery.
Perhaps the most important tip, according to Carter, is to purchase a liner than has been prefabricated in a factory. Liners for large ponds typically consist of multiple sheets of material that are welded together. Prefabricating the liner means that the welding is done in the factory, producing better, more leak-resistant seams, says Carter.
“If the installer needs to weld the liner in the field, that’s less than ideal,” says Carter.
Welding done in the field must deal with issues such as uneven ground or bad weather. Field welding is also performed with less sophisticated equipment, according to Carter.
