The Duke Endowment awards $1,699,000 in grant funding to the Family Centered Treatment Foundation

The unique design and methodology of this study will be exciting to watch!

The Family Centered Treatment Foundation (FCTF) is a nonprofit organization serving over 60 sites across 10 US states. FCTF provides licensing, training, and oversight of the Family Centered Treatment ® (FCT) model to human service organizations. Established in 1992, FCTF has been integral in providing best practice and evidence-based services that have improved the lives of over 25,000 families! The FCTF’s mission is to enhance the capability of agencies, communities and state systems of care in the implementation of proven evidence-based programs to better address the needs of families in crisis.

The Duke Endowment grant will be used to conduct a randomized control research study in North Carolina that meets the highest levels of scientific analysis. The study will examine numerous factors affecting children and families involved in the child mental health/welfare systems, including short, medium and long-term outcomes of family-stabilization, decarceration, family-functioning, safety, and cost-effectiveness. This study will be conducted in collaboration with the Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy, the Duke University’s Robert J. Margolis, MD, Center for Health Policy as well as multiple Managed Care Organizations across North Carolina.

Two quasi-experimental studies with large sample sizes, along with 25 years of practice-based evidence, have proven the effectiveness and sustainability of FCT outcomes. Nevertheless, there is a critical need for a randomized control trial (study) to evaluate the effectiveness with the child mental health/welfare population.

“We are again thrilled to be partnering with The Duke Endowment in our study and research around proven models of service to help families. This generous grant will enable research at the highest scientific standards to further determine how FCT affects the lives of families and youth struggling with a multitude of challenges. Additionally, the unique design and methodology of this study will be exciting to watch.”
