Saint Mary’s University Of Minnesota Is Protecting The Companies Of Tomorrow By Preparing The Students Of Today In Cybersecurity

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is adding an online Master of Science in Cybersecurity to its robust roster of online academic programs.

Saint Mary’s recognizes the urgent worldwide need for cybersecurity leaders. Nearly every day brings news of a cybersecurity attack, and global cybersecurity spending grew 7 percent in 2017, to $86.4 billion. Previously unaware of their vulnerabilities, large and small businesses alike now grasp how quickly they need to act to protect their most important assets.

In addition, the cybersecurity industry has far too few skilled professionals and a pressing demand for more. ISACA, a non-profit information security advocacy group, projects there will be two million unfilled cybersecurity jobs by 2020. Forbes reports 40,000 new cybersecurity jobs go unfilled every year.

Saint Mary’s Master of Science in Cybersecurity prepares students to meet the needs of this rapidly growing field in an online format that fits their busy lives.

“Saint Mary’s new online Master’s in Cybersecurity is developing leaders who can take on modern security challenges and confidently present comprehensive security plans in boardrooms and at executive meetings.” – Don Heier, Program Director

Students will experience a curriculum designed by real-world cybersecurity professionals, including hiring managers, security executives and government officials. These curriculum contributors agree that this program meets the needs of this field.

“Being able to take the technical side of [cybersecurity], and the soft skills, and meld them together … that is what makes a dynamic leader and executive.” – curriculum contributor Kate Kortsch, President & CEO, KII Consulting

In addition, students will receive a comprehensive education that provides a powerful combination of technology fundamentals, including risk management, network security and more, along with business leadership skills like communications, negotiation, and ethical decision-making.

This crucial blend of skills will help graduates communicate the importance of data protection to colleagues who aren’t well-versed in cybersecurity procedures, ensure the implementation of their initiatives, and become the solution to cyberattacks.

The Saint Mary’s cybersecurity program is ideal for IT professionals looking to advance into a top leadership position as well as those seeking the technology fundamentals needed to enter the industry. Military veterans are especially well-suited, as the program builds on their technical aptitude and problem solving skills.

The online Master of Science in Cybersecurity is now accepting applications. Classes for this program will begin August 2018.
