Globe concert posters represent an illustrated history of popular, jazz and rock music history in America.

Avid collector, Andrew Hawley, announces his search for original rock n roll 1950s and 1960s Globe boxing style concert posters. Globe illustrated America’s top rock acts starting in the 1950s. According to Hawley, “Globe concert posters represent an illustrated history of popular, jazz and rock music history in America. Globe started in Baltimore in 1929 by Norman Goldstein and Harry Shapiro. They printed posters for music concerts, political campaigns, boxing events, and traveling circuses. Famous artists from Tina Turner, Chubby Checker, James Brown to Jimi Hendrix and many less popular artists used Globe to print posters to advertise shows on the East Coast. The typical Globe poster layout used loud, bright colors to catch the eye. The artist images were printed on the posters by metal on wood photo cuts. These images came from publicity stills provided by the artists or promotors.” For examples of boxing style concert posters, go to http://www.vintageconcertposterbuyer.com/boxing_style/index.html

Hawley adds, “Globe closed its doors in 2010. Fortunately, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) purchased Globes collection of posters, wood photo cuts and tools. MICA has over 20,000 image cuts. This collection is an overview of Globe’s customers and preserves the likenesses of America’s top artists and sports figures since the 1920s. The nation is very lucky that MICA stepped and saved this important collection of Americana illustrated art and music.”

If you have an original rock n roll 1950s and 1960s Globe boxing style concert poster, Hawley is willing to pay $3,000 cash for it. Please call 310-346-1965 or email andrew (at) vintageconcertposterbuyer.com.
