“When It Snows In Miami”: a story about a girl who believes God can do anything, including bring her father home from war. “When It Snows In Miami” is the creation of published author, David Walton. An ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), David has served congregations in Virginia and Florida. His narrative preaching style and vivid storytelling make him a popular speaker who is often asked to give keynote speeches at retreats, conferences, and other events. He is passionate about spreading the Good News of Jesus in new and creative ways, which is why he started experimenting with play writing. Since 2010, David has written, directed, and produced several productions, which have been well received and reviewed. “When It Snows in Miami” actually started as a script. David currently makes his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he lives with Teresa, his bride of over thirty years. “When It Snows in Miami” is his first novel.
“Though When It Snows in Miami is a faith-based novel, it is a subtle one. After all, discerning God’s presence means opening our hearts to the ways he is at work in everyday people and events in our lives. God’s angels take many forms, and in this story, we meet some of them. Each character emphasizes the importance of relationship as a source of God’s strength in the midst of life’s difficulties.” –David Walton
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, David’s new book is an innocent tale of a young girl, her school buddies, and their carefree life set against a backdrop of far more serious issues.
It is Christmas, 1942, and the war comes home when Mary Helen’s father is presumed killed-in-action. As her devastated mother, Frances, struggles with grief and starts to question her faith, Mary Helen does the opposite. An off-handed, and long forgotten, comment by her mother planted a seed in the young girl’s heart. “God can do anything,” she says, “even make it snow in Miami.” If God can do anything, she believes He can bring her daddy home.
Even as Frances struggles as a war widow and parent, she and Mary Helen become the object of town gossip due her husband’s German ancestry. The prejudice and bullying leave their marks. Meanwhile, Mary Helen is a high-spirited storyteller who is not afraid to stretch the truth, which complicates things. Adapted from a successful stage play, “When It Snows in Miami” speaks through historical events to offer readers a story that will move and inspire them.
